For real-time localization, the PLS uses the AoA (Angle of Arrival) method. This enables it to achieve unrivaled reliability and precision in location determination (between 15 and 25 cm).

The pucks send short Bluetooth signals to the locators, which are permanently installed on the ceiling, for example.

The mobile device's position is calculated by comparing the propagation times of one or more received signals (AoA and RSSI).

The infrastructure requirements are minimal: For a rectangular room measuring 100 to 200 m² Approximately 5 to 10 locators are needed for this area.

After installation, an initial calibration of the system is performed, during which the reference positions of the permanently installed receivers are determined and stored in the system. The pucks can then be used immediately without calibration.

Localization of pucks with AoA and locators (antennas)

Pucks (e.g. for ordering in restaurants or self-service areas) are localized using Angle of Arrival (AoA) technology and special locator antennas. The position of the puck is determined by measuring the angle of the signals received.

The accompanying illustration shows this principle: Several permanently installed locator antennas (top left and right) receive signals from a puck that is located, for example, on a specific table. The exact position of the puck can be calculated based on the different angles of arrival (AoA) at the antennas. These angles are visualized by dashed lines and the green and pink angle labels.
