Efficient restaurant automation with PLS

The Dutch company Skippify (formerly De Digitale BV) provides restaurants with comprehensive self-service solutions.

To this end, the company relies on hardware from PYRAMID, including POLYTOUCH® kiosk systems and the PLS paging and locating system.

Guests place their orders and pay at the POLYTOUCH® PASSPORT 32. The kiosk's large display makes it ideal for clearly presenting the extensive menu.

After placing their order, guests receive a location tag in the form of a puck from the self-order terminal .

From that point on, the staff can track the guest’s location on the screen andserve them at their specific table—regardless of whether they are inside the restaurant or in the outdoor seating area.

When the order is delivered, the puck is collected by the staff and placed in the terminal for the next use.

The technology behind this pinpoint-accurate table service is called PLS and—like the order kiosk—comes from Pyramid Computer . PLS is a high-precision location system (RTLS) whose hardware and software components track guests’ locations in real time.

Unlike other Bluetooth-based beaconing solutions, the PLS determines a puck's location using angle measurement. This results in a localization accuracy of 20 cm.

"By using the PLS and the POLYTOUCH® self-service terminals, we were able to increase the ticket size in the restaurants by up to 35% and thus significantly increase our turnover."
