This fully automated store, which is open 24 hours a day, is located at the Renningen train station and offers a range of everyday items. The new store was developed in collaboration with Deutsche Bahn and the startup Smark and is part of the “Zukunftsbahnhof Renningen” project, featuring a futuristic design made from old shipping containers.
The vending machine store is the first of its kind for the EDEKA Südwest Group. With this type of store concept, “anything is possible,” as store owner Gisela Karow-Schäfer puts it. Back-of-house robots fulfill orders placed via an app on the customer’s smartphone or via a touchscreen in the store, while customers can also enjoy freshly brewed coffee and hot baked goods in the store. The hardware is supplied by the point-of-sale specialist Pyramid Computer GmbH .
